5 Overlooked Potential Stars From The 2017 NBA DRAFT

The 2017 NBA draft has ended, free agency has wound down and the off season has hit a lull. Some have started to look at the 2018 NBA draft with anticipation hoping that their team will find the next great star or superstar. What about the players that were just drafted? Are any potentially more than most expect? Below we will profile 5 players taken outside the top 10 in this years draft that we believe have the potential to become NBA stars.

1. Malik Monk

Monk can flat out score and if he was even an inch taller would have been a top 5 pick. However at only 6-3 his lack of height is a concern on defense. If Monk can even be an average distributor the potential exists for him to become and All Star caliber PG. His scoring ability still profiles well at the 2 as well.

NBA projection Kyrie Irving or CJ Mcollum

2. Donovan Mitchell

Mitchell is undersized for the 2 but a 6-10 wingspan easily helps to compensate, not only is he a high level defender but he is a solid ball handler with some PG experience the question is will he be a PG or 2 at the NBA level?

NBA projection Marcus Smart with a possibility to be more like Kemba Walker

3.Justin Jackson

Jackson is a wild card good defender, solid outside shooter with a nice floater game, however he is not an elite athlete and the the NBA tend to assume without that your ceiling is limited I disagree I think he has real potential to develop into a Jimmy Butler/Gordon Hayward type.

4. Harry Giles

Giles has clear cut superstar ability but injuries caused him to drop out of the lottery.

NBA projection Chris Webber

5. Caleb Swanigan

Swanigan is a below the rim lunch pail type with less athleticism than preferred. However he is incredibly strong with a high motor and a nose for making winning plays.

NBA PROJECTION- Zach Randolph
